This is the breeding area. All breeding cocks and hens, stay in these cages from January untill June.
All breeding cocks are placed here at the beginning of January
and stay alone for 30 days. They get prepared for the mating season, with special diet and food supliments.
Meanwhile the breeding hens are in the Fly cages and when the time is right each one is selected
to mate the correct cock. The size of both breeding cock and breeding hen, the hardness or softness of their
feathers, are some of the reasons on why we choose the specific pairs!!
In here we keep the fertile eggs, till the last egg is born. the eggs are marked and turned around
once a day. The eggs are replaced with a plastic egg, so the breeding hen will not be stressed.
Below is the hospital cage where we place the ill canaries. This cage is heated with a ceramic lamp, and
has a steady temperature. When a canary is ill, always tries to keep itself warm, and by doing so looses its
energy and becomes exhausted. By providing the correct temperature and the correct treatment, the ill
canary has better chances to survive.
Following are our Fly cages. Breeding hens are kept separate from breeding cocks. The new canaries are all
kept in a different cage from the adult canaries to avoid fights, that many times end up in deaths.
New canaries have different diet from adult canaries.
The trays and trolley that makes it very easy to feed and drink the canaries.
